Nidingen
- an unique place to be
Sweden´s
most Western outpost. A barren and exposed nature surrounded by
sea. In former days Nidingen was called the the
Western seas´ ship
graveyard. There are known to have been around seven hundred ships
lost by Nidingen and its hazardous reefs - often they were conned
in wrong waters by the "nidingar" so they could plunder
their cargo. The worlds first double lighthouse was constructed
here in 1624. Since then, it has been a much calmer place.
Today
Nidingen is a warm and friendly place. This can be proven by the
existence of the rare three toed gull, which has made the lighthouse
to one of the most important and exotic bird observatories of
the West Coast. And you will discover this when you have strolled
around the island, maybe dipped your toes in Kattegatt, and while
the evening sun is sinking under the waves, enjoying a glass of
wine in the lighthouse.
